The boys and girls track teams started off the postseason last night at the District prelims at Salem. A few final events were contested and senior Austin Hinzman and junior Jimmie Painter both advanced to the Regional Meet next week in the long jump. Hinzman finished as District champion and Painter finished in 3rd place.
The girls 4×8 relay of junior Emylie Candelaria, junior Sandra Northup, freshman Hannah Ragland, and sophomore Amber Hankins placed 7th but did not move on to Regionals.
In preliminary events, the following boys moved on to Saturday’s finals: junior Damian Jackson in the 110 hurdles, the 4×2 relay of juniors Ravel Ray, Derrick Brown, Justin Christian, and Malik Shaver, the 4×1 relay of junior Marcus Sims, Brown, senior Zach Rankin, and Hinzman, Christian in the 400, Shaver in the 300 hurdles, sophomore Dennis Charnes in the 800, and the 4×4 relay of Ray, Charnes, Christian, and Shaver.
On the girls side, the following athletes moved on to Saturday’s finals: junior Ashley Martinez in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, junior Halie Stevens in the 100, the 4×1 relay of junior Rachael Fogg, senior Gracie Collins, Stevens, and Martinez, freshman Carly Wightman in the 400, Candelaria in the 800, and junior Libby Vanderark in the 200.
Athletes who finish in the top 4 on Saturday will advance to next week’s Regional track meet at Austintown Fitch.
