The boys track team finished in 2nd place at the PTC Invitational on Friday night, with three more athletes winning PTC titles.
Senior Austin Hinzman won the high jump, junior Damian Jackson won the 110 hurdles, and junior Malik Shaver won the 300 hurdles. Other placers for the Comets included Hinzman in the 100 (7th), junior Justin Christian in the 400 (2nd) and 200 (6th), junior Derrick Brown in the 200 (8th), sophomore Dennis Charnes in the 800 (5th), junior Ben Bullock in the 1600 (8th), senior Owen Hartwig in the 3200 (8th), junior Calvin Dudley in the 110 hurdles (8th), junior Noah Murray in the high jump (7th), the 4×1 relay of senior Zach Rankin, Brown, Dudley, and Hinzman (2nd), the 4×2 relay of junior Ravel Ray and Brown, Christian, and Shaver (3rd), and the 4×4 relay of Charnes, senior Nolland Almestica, Christian, and Shaver (2nd).
The girls finished in 6th place as a team. Placing for the Comets were senior Gracie Collins in the 100 hurdles (5th) and 300 hurdles (5th), junior Libby Vanderark in the 200 (8th) and 400 (8th), freshman Carly Wightman in the 400 (7th), junior Paula Stevens in the 100 hurdles (8th) and 300 hurdles (7th), senior Jasmine Yates in the shot put (6th), senior Mea’nah Witherspoon in the shot put (8th), the 4×1 relay of junior Halie Stevens, Collins, freshman McKayla Sullivan, and Yates (5th), the 4×2 relay of Collins, Stevens, Wightman, and Vanderark (2nd), and the 4×4 relay of Wightman, Vanderark, junior Emylie Candelaria, and sophomore Amber Hankins (7th).
The teams are back in action on Thursday and Saturday at Districts. Athletes finishing in the top 4 at Districts will advance to the Regional track meet.
