Monday afternoon was a great day for some volleyball as both teams came out on top over Cloverleaf!
The 7th grade came out strong in game one downing the Colts 25-9. In game 2, the Comets found themselves trailing Cloverleaf by a score of 22-8. The girls pushed for a side-out, which rotated Sydney Peterson back to the service line. Peterson stepped up with confidence and rallied off 13 points in a row with some powerful serves and a couple of good plays by her team’s defense, as well as some big hits at the net by middle hitter – Madison Burkhart. With the score tied at 22-22, Cloverleaf got the ball back and took the lead 23-22. A missed serve by the Colts, gave the ball back to the Comets with Emmie Morrison to serve and the score tied at 23-23. Morrison served out the final two points and the 7th graders got the win 25-23. Sydney Peterson led all scorers with 22 points total. Emmie Morrison and Madi Burkhart added 4 points each. It was Peterson that led in assists and Burkhart and Aubrey McCracken led in kills at the net. The 7th grade team improves to 7-0.
The 8th grade team played well in their match up against the Colts. The girls won 25-13 and 25-12. Brooke Mirka and Emma Gotto led all servers with 9 service points each, followed by Haley Futrell’s 5 service points. Futrell and Joy Prater led in the back row with great passes and Mirka and Ronnie Meinen led at the net with serveral key hits and blocks. Emma Gotto, Lexi Dimeff and Mallory Meinen got the assists. The 8th grade team stands at a perfect 10-0 on their season.
Good luck to both teams as they take on the Streetsboro Rockets at home this Wednesday and then travel to face the Norton Panthers on Thursday. Both games are league match-ups. GO COMETS!
