Coventry Athletic Hall of Fame member Bill Cox will be presenting the game ball to the officials at the boys basketball home opener on Friday night. Bill was a 1958 Coventry graduate who earned 12 varsity letters during his high school career. He still holds several basketball records, including the record for most points in a game (45), most field goals made in a game (19), and was the leading scorer for 23 straight games. During his senior year, Bill averaged 25.1 points per game, earning Honorable Mention All-State Honors. Bill went on to play basketball at Bowling Green and played semipro ball in Albion, Michigan. He’s been a lifelong educator, serving as a teacher, guidance counselor, coach, and referee and has coached several NFL legends, including Jack Lambert and Mike Adamle. Bill can still be found on the track every spring officiating meets and is a member of the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame. Bill and his wife of 49 years Barbara reside in Kent.
